In this post I will be analysing a small portion of the shots in Minority Report.

Video I Will Be Analysing:

4.00 - 4.10:

The shot from 4.00 to 4.10 is a stationary zoom shot which I find very interesting. The first part of the shot depicts the love affair. The two figures are backlit placing them in the shadow, perhaps indicating that something secret or something that should be 'kept in the shadows' is occurring. The shot quickly transitions to the husband of the adulterous wife, as the door to the next room closes revealing his reflection. This could again be seen a metaphor suggesting the love affair should have been 'kept behind closed doors', which is most likely what the wife intended to occur if it wasn't for the Huband returning home early. The fact that the husband is revealed in a reflection instead of the camera simply cutting to his face is also very interesting to me, firstly, it is visually interesting and clean for the eye to look at creating an aesthetic shot that allows the film to slow smoothly. But also, because as the camera didn’t cut at all it links the husband and his emotion directly to the situation at hand, allowing the audience to understand to another degree the context of the film. After the Husbands reflection is revealed, the shot slowly zooms into the reflection of his face, focussing on his blank expression, which depicts to the audience his confusion of the information that as just revealed to him. I also believe that this is a very effective shot as it is taken at quite a slow pace, allowing the audience time to process the situation before them, before the quick paced action that is shortly to follow begins.
