Question Two : How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?
The Creative Process behind my question 2:
After I had written the script (see below) I had to actually produce the podcast. Firstly I tried to put on a voice for the presenter (Keith) but decided that it was not the right fit.

After the role was rejected by my brother I thought I could use an AI voice. I used the software Play.ht (Create Ultra Realistic AI Voices Online | Play.ht) to generate the voice. At first the pacing was not correct and the audio felt very robotic, however after playing around with pitch, pause and emphasis settings I was able to reach a some what natural audio clips. After I had collected the AI audio clips I recorded my parts and edited them together in Adobe Audition, I had a primitive amount of skill with the program before starting this project but now I can say I can confidently cut audio together and merge clips to make them seamlessly flow together. After adding intro and outro music and the visual card in Adobe Premier Pro my podcast was complete.
The Script:
Intro music plays (royalty free) – whilst music continues to play but fades down slightly:
Keith (Annie In Deep Voice or may recruit Jasper): Hello its me Keith! Welcome to the Film Fact File, the best podcast for indie film fans to find out about new and upcoming films. Today we have a very special treat for you guys as we have one of the key actors and directors of the new indie hit ‘A Note To Maria’ with us today, Annabel Clarke.
‘A Note To Maria’ is an action pact, high intensity film packed with sabotage and mystery, so good news for you adrenaline junkies out there! It follows the life of Professional government assassin Maria through her life as she tries to juggle her daily life with her highly dangerous job all whilst trying to uncover a mystery that could be a threat to her and others. Today Annie will be talking us through who the film was created for and where the film will be available. Therefore you, the listener will be able to know whether the film is really worth your time and money. So, lets get straight into it shall we. Annie…
Annie: Hey Keith!
Keith: Who would you say would enjoy this movie the most? The target audience if you will.
Annie: Well, as you said previously the movie is very fast paced and exciting, so anyone who enjoys a bit of action would be a great fit for the movie. More specifically as the main character is a strong empowering woman. The women with in the audience who enjoy viewing people that represent them in the main leading role of an action movie will heavily enjoy this film.
Keith: Hmmm interesting, interesting… such as a female bond girl?
Annie: NO!! Not at all. Yes the lead is a woman who dresses glamorously in a violent world but that basically were the similarities end! Maria is not a damsel as seen in so many other action film, she is a strong, independent character who is pioneering her own journey. The character type is similar to the lead of other movies such as Atomic Blond or La Femme Nikita, which were heavy inspirations in our production process.
Keith: Ahhh I see, very counter typical to the normal female lead in a movie of the same genre. Is there any other things with in the movie that challenges the audience expectations?
Annie: Haha… well I don’t want to spoil the whole of the movie but there is a lot of theme and genre deception with in the film that the audience may not expect such as the lack of use of weapons and the confusing power dynamics between characters and organisations as well as the gender of the lead. But I want your viewers to rest assured that ‘A Note to Maria’ still has the widely loved aspects of an action pact spy film and that the film is worth the watch for fans of the genre. These aspects of the film include the high intensity chase scenes paired with the use of suspenseful filming and violence.
Keith: So, what niche would you say your film fits into?
Annie: I would say that the film crosses over multiple different niches. It can be enjoyed by people who enjoy political espionage but also people that enjoy the visual side of a film as there are quite a few highly astatically pleasing shots, shot in locations including the London Underground and the Royal Opera House. These shots were very fun to do as we were shooting directly in the environment with normal people going about their daily business, which in turn gave our movie a sense of realism which is sometimes not found in other action movies as the events are far to out of the ordinary.
Keith: Good to know! Moving away from who the film is intended for and who you believe will enjoy ‘A Note to Maria’, how can people access the movie? Will there be a cinematic release or is the movie intended to be indulged by our digital natives out there who prefer watching movies from the conform of there own home?
Annie: Well Keith, as our company is not a big production company I’m afraid that a cinematic release is near to impossible…
Keith: That is a shame.
Annie: But yes! Our movie will be released digitally on multiple streaming sites such as Amazon film and Netflix, so good news for you home watchers!
Keith: Well Annie, as the film is from quite a small company how are you going to get the word out to a wider amount of viewers?
Annie: Well, obviously were going to release a trailer and poster to get people interested in the movie but as we are a smaller company this may not have that large of an effect. In terms of more non-conventional marketing tactics, I believe we are going to publish the film on social media and depend on fans, actors and our social media team to like and share the film to widen our audience. So listeners, get sharing! We of course are going to book on to tv shows and podcast just like this to again get the word out there. And of course, the most exciting form of marketing, we’re working with a very exciting clothing brand to bring a new clothing line associated with ‘A Note to Maria’! Follow our social media for more information!
Keith: Yes do! Their social media tag is at A Note To Maria or if you do not have social media you can find all of the exciting news about the film at www. A note to maria .com. Well Annie, it was lovely talking to you but I’m afraid we’ve ran out of time!
Annie: That’s alright Keith, thankyou for having me!
Keith: Thankyou all for tuning in to this weeks Film Fact File! Next week I will be joined by Neve Felsted to discuss her up and coming movie Behind Her Eyes! But for now its good bye from Annie…
Annie: Goodbye!
Keith: …and goodbye from me… goodbye!
